Venezuela is situated in South America and bordered by Colombia, Guyana, Brazil, Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. Near the Venezuelan coast lie the Caribbean islands like Grenada, Aruba, Curacao, Trinidad and Tobago and Leeward Antilles. Venezuela is a country has high biodiversity. Human inhabitation in Venezuela dates back to 15.000 years. In the year 1522, Venezuela became the colony of Spain. The country got independence from Spain in the year 1811 but gained full independence only in 1830. During the 19th century, Venezuela had experienced dictatorial rule and political turmoil. Venezuela is ranked 33rd among the largest countries.

 

Venezuela is divided in to four well-defined geographical regions such as Maracaibo lowlands, mountains, wide plains and Guiana Highlands. Venezuela is a presidential republic headed by the President who is head of the state as well as the head of the government. Executive power is exercised by the President and the legislative power is vested on the National Assembly. Judiciary system is independent for executive and legislative powers. The age for voting in the country is 18 years and older but not compulsory to vote. Economy of the country is mixed economy dominated by petroleum. Venezuela exports and manufactures heavy industry things like cement, aluminum and steel.

 

The population of Venezuela is more than 29 million and the birth rate of the country is highest after Paraguay, Bolivia and French Guyana in South America. Among the population, 60% are Mestizo, 30% are European and remaining are two Amerindian tribes and Afro-Venezuelans. Venezuelan Spanish is the dominant language of Venezuela. In Venezuela, about 40 languages are spoken. Majority of the population are Roman Catholic and remaining are Protestants. Venezuela is one of the most corrupted countries in the world. Venezuela’s art, culture and heritage are influenced highly by the Caribbean culture.

 

Venezuela offer much to the tourism industry with its immense plains, tropical beaches, forests, jungle, enormous rivers, great mountains and waterfalls. Caracas, capital of the country is worth visiting with its hills and mountains. In Caracas, you can visit several museums, Plaza Bolivar, Casa Amarilla, Parque Nacional del Este, Jardin Botanico and Capitol. Angel Falls is the biggest attraction of Venezuela which falls from a height of 3,000ft. Henri Pittier National Park is a great tourist destination of the country with various species of animals and plants along with some endangered species. Venezuela possesses magnificent churches which are built during the colonial era of Spanish. The architecture of these churches is the example of colonial past.

 

Merida is a town that provides the tourists several opportunities of mountain climbing and hiking. The world’s longest and highest cable car service is in Merida. Enjoy El Avila National Park by watching variety of animals such as armadillos, jaguars, sloths and red howler monkeys. In Merida, you can enjoy paragliding and mountain biking. You can also enjoy the most excellent cave systems of Venezuela, Cueva del Guacharo. Maiquetia is a place that offers beaches with variety of water activities.  Guri Dam, Danto Falls and Santa Elena are worth visiting.
